Streetscape upgrades underway
Exciting news! We’ve commenced work on a range of road and streetscape upgrades to help make the precinct around Rhodes Recreation Centre safer, greener, and more welcoming.
This includes new tree plantings and a raised pedestrian crossing under construction along Gauthorpe Street.
Stay tuned for news on further upgrades to the precinct in the coming months, including additional pedestrian crossings, landscaping and street furniture as part of the Rhodes West Station Precinct Planning Agreement.
We are looking forward to delivering these upgrades to coincide with the opening of our $80 million Rhodes Recreation Centre later this year.
With Rhodes set to welcome over 18,000 residents by 2036, we’re committed to investing in quality open spaces and recreation facilities that support the needs of our growing community both now and into the future.

New artist’s impressions revealed for Rhodes Recreation Centre.
The City of Canada Bay is excited to unveil the latest artist’s impressions of Rhodes Recreation Centre.
“We’re excited to reveal these fantastic new images of Rhodes Recreation Centre, opening later this year,” said City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna.
“As one of Sydney’s fastest-growing precincts, we are committed to providing our Rhodes community with high-quality open spaces and recreation facilities.
“The Centre will not only meet the needs of residents today but continue to serve future generations for years to come.”
Set to open in late 2025, this $80 million centre will offer world-class facilities for everyone in the community to use and enjoy. Once complete, the centre will feature:
A cutting-edge gym with group fitness areas and modern equipment
Two premium indoor sports courts available for bookings
A dedicated gymnastics centre for all ages and skill levels
Bookable community rooms for events, workshops and group activities
An early learning centre and childcare service for young families
A welcoming community lounge and café
Located at 6 Gauthorpe Street, the centre is less than a five minutes’ walk from Rhodes Train Station and includes basement parking for easy access.
With more than 18,000 people expected to call Rhodes home by 2036, this project supports our long-term commitment to building high-quality open spaces and recreational facilities for the community, now and into the future.
In addition to the building works, Council has commenced upgrades to the roads and streetscapes surrounding the precinct to improve safety, access and amenity ahead of the centre’s opening.
